AVVie GmbH, also known as Angel Valve Vienna, is a startup based in Vienna, Austria, founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the Medical University of Vienna. The company focuses on developing advanced medical devices for treating structural heart diseases, particularly severe mitral regurgitation. Their mission is to enhance clinical outcomes for patients while lowering healthcare costs. The flagship product of AVVie is the Mitral Butterfly®, a transcatheter repair device designed for degenerative mitral regurgitation. This innovative device acts as a hemi valve, replacing the dysfunctional posterior leaflet of the mitral valve. It utilizes a proprietary chordal repair technique and introduces an artificial papillary muscle to support the valve, offering a unique approach to mitral valve repair.
