About

BIOMEND - Doctorate Network is a collaborative research and training initiative focused on developing bioabsorbable metallic endovascular medical devices. Coordinated by the University of Galway, Ireland, it brings together 18 leading academic, industry, and clinical organizations across seven European countries. The network offers a structured PhD program for 15 doctoral candidates, emphasizing interdisciplinary training that combines academic research, industrial experience, and clinical exposure. The network's research efforts are centered on creating advanced magnesium and zinc alloys with improved mechanical and corrosion properties. BIOMEND also works on innovative coating technologies and the design of bioabsorbable devices, such as stents and scaffolds, that safely degrade in the body after their therapeutic role is fulfilled. Through international collaboration, BIOMEND enhances the skills and experiences of its doctoral candidates, contributing to the advancement of the medical technology sector.
