Why Your Patients Need a BiteSoft® Anterior Splint
Bruxism affects many patients and can be a significant source of chronic tooth pain. The BiteSoft® splint is designed to help patients who clench or grind their teeth at night. Dentists who prescribe our BiteSoft® splint can help reduce discomfort and promote a more restful night’s sleep. If your patient suffers from TMD or Bruxism, our BiteSoft® night guard is a safe, pain-free and effective way to reduce harmful symptoms.
Issuing a BiteSoft® Splint
Insert and check that the appliance cannot be easily removed with lip or tongue pressure. Ensure the patient cannot retrude mandible past the posterior edge of the ramp. This is best done with the patient lying down. The lingual ramp is designed to guide the incisors onto the incisal table. It is important that the occlusal load is distributed evenly over 3 or 4 opposing incisor teeth to optimize bruxism inhibition but not the cuspids.
BiteSoft® Tips
1/ The anterior vertical opening with the appliance in place does not need to be more than 2 mm in the majority of cases because minimal clearance of posterior teeth is all that is required in all positions of the mandible so be sure to check that the incisal table is close to right angled to the long axis of the opposing anterior teeth.
2/ Because some patients occasionally require extra time to adapt to their splint, it is important that these patients only wear their splint for a few hours over night until they become more familiar and comfortable with the appliance.
3/ Some initial muscle tenderness is not uncommon in patients, especially for those who have worn splints previously.
4/ There must not be any posterior contacts against the appliance when the opposing incisors are in contact with the incisal table or in any excursive movement. Opposing cuspids may contact the appliance in lateral excursions. Cuspid contact in lateral excursions will not diminish the inhibition effect.
