SoundSense first started from a university medical technology hackathon team. Our team consists of seven students of diverse backgrounds from engineering to business. Built with a depth camera and earphones, SoundSense is a wearable device that aims to aid the visually impaired to see the world with sound. Our mission is to provide a discreet and affordable wearable device that allows those with low vision to approach navigation with a sense of ease. Our solution aims to have a positive impact on the visually impaired community, giving them newfound independence and agency, and access to the workforce.
