Insufflation of the colon is required for visualization during colonoscopy. However, when air or fluid incontinence occurs, maneuverability and visualization are compromised. This issue costs valuable time, adds frustration for the physician and staff, may result in sub-optimal exam, earlier repeat colonoscopies, and increased costs.
BPEndo’s, Insufflation Retention Device (IRD) is an add-on device that solves the problem of air or fluid incontinence by creating a seal in the rectum while simultaneously allowing full freedom of movement for the endoscope to ensure full visualization. The patent-pending IRD essentially makes an incompetent sphincter competent. BPEndo raised a $1.2mm seed round to obtain FDA 510(k) clearance to then be able to bring the device to market.
