About
Cameron Health was a medical device company founded in 2000 and based in San Clemente, California, with an office in Arnhem, The Netherlands. The company specialized in the development of the Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (S-ICD) system, which offered a minimally invasive alternative to traditional implantable cardioverter-defibrillators. The S-ICD system is implanted outside the thoracic wall, eliminating the need for leads inside the heart or blood vessels. The S-ICD system was the first commercially available subcutaneous ICD, receiving CE Mark approval and being available in select European countries since 2009. It had been implanted in over 1,000 patients worldwide and was undergoing regulatory review in the United States, with FDA approval expected in early 2013. In June 2012, Cameron Health was acquired by Boston Scientific, which integrated the S-ICD technology into its arrhythmia management portfolio.
