CÚRAM is a multidisciplinary research centre advancing R&D in the medical device sector. Supported by Science Foundation Ireland and industry partners, CÚRAM enhances Ireland’s standing as a major hub for the global medical devices industry.
CÚRAM focuses on an academic-industry-clinician led strategy that facilitates innovative, technical and transformative solutions to be developed for the current and emerging medical devices industry. The centre proactively seeks out and collaborates with industry partners. Support for industry ranges from basic scientific research, translation through preclinical and clinical development into regulatory and commercialisation readiness.
Over 200 researchers are engaged in developing innovative implantable ‘smart’ devices to respond to the body’s environment and to deliver therapeutic agents exactly where they are needed. The research benefits patients with chronic ailments such as soft tissue and wound healing, cardiovascular, neural, renal, pulmonary, ophthalmology and musculoskeletal diseases. Underpinning these disease targets are core research capabilities in biomaterials, drug delivery, cell therapy, glycosciences and device design. The ultimate goal is to provide affordable transformative solutions for chronic diseases.
