Eye2Gene

Eye2Gene is an AI platform developed through a collaboration between University College London, Moorfields Eye Hospital, and Heidelberg Engineering. It focuses on enhancing the diagnosis of inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) using advanced technology. The platform employs an ensemble of 15 convolutional neural networks to analyze retinal scans from various imaging modalities, including spectral-domain optical coherence tomography, infrared reflectance, and fundus autofluorescence. This multimodal approach allows for comprehensive analysis and accurate gene predictions. Trained on a large dataset of retinal scans, Eye2Gene achieves a top-5 gene prediction accuracy of approximately 83-84%, surpassing many expert clinicians in numerous cases. The platform integrates with Heidelberg Engineering’s software, providing real-time AI-assisted gene predictions directly from multimodal scans. Eye2Gene serves eye care professionals, genetic counselors, and clinical researchers, facilitating earlier patient referrals for genetic testing and clinical trials while improving the overall diagnostic process for inherited retinal diseases.
