About
Hemianopsia, or hemianopia, is a loss of vision or blindness (anopsia) in half the visual field, usually on one side of the vertical midline. The most common causes of this damage are stroke, brain tumor, and trauma. HemiGlass develops a smartglass to make these patients mobile and let them live more indepently. The total image we see is called the visual field and when parts of it are lost, it is called visual field loss. It is then as if you are looking at a puzzle with a number of puzzle pieces missing. The number of people who suffer from visual field loss and are therefore more or less limited in their daily activities is much larger than you think. Every year there are ± 4,500 hemianopsia patients in the Netherlands. The HemiGlass does not make all the puzzle pieces visible again to the eye affected by the half-blindness, but ensures that the missing image is projected into the other eye.
