Since its founding in 2002, Hoana Medical, Inc. (“Hoana”, the “Company”) has developed, manufactured, sold and serviced the world’s first totally passive medical monitoring system that requires absolutely no patient compliance, referred to as the LifeBed™ Intelligent Medical Vigilance System (“LifeBed”). The LifeBed coverlet or overlay, with embedded sensors, monitors a patient’s basic vital signs without any direct connection to the patient, somewhat like the futuristic Sickbay diagnostic bed in the popular 1960s television show, Star Trek. Since obtaining Class-2 FDA approval, the LifeBed has been used by more than 100,000 acute care medical-surgical unit patients, operating for 10 million hours in hospitals across the U.S. and in the United Kingdom, resulting in thousands of lifesaving interventions and trusted by medical professionals and hospitals. Hoana also introduced a version of the LifeBed designed for emergency room (“ER”) use called the LifeGurney™ Patient Vigilance System (“LifeGurney”); variants can be used in ambulances and emergency transport systems. Given the rising acuity of hospitalized patients, the aging population, and the nursing shortage, improving ancillary support for hospitals, particularly for medical-surgical nursing staff, is essential. The original LifeBed System was designed to address these challenges in a cost effective manner by bringing unique, non-invasive sensor technology to the acute care bed.
After years of development, Hoana is preparing to introduce the next generation LifeBed System, the LifeBed II™. Key features include improved capabilities, wireless connectivity and a massive reduction in cost, enabling the Company to serve other markets in addition to the medical-surgical units and emergency floors of acute care hospitals.
