SMILE is freeze-free and fail-safe. It keeps vaccines and bio-products at between 2 and 8 degrees for 3 to 6 days during use without electricity. SMILE has been iterated, tested and field-proven. With the situation of the current pandemic, the logistics for vaccine delivery and testing could be overwhelming. SMILE could help, in particular for reaching out to the vulnerable and those who can't easily travel to a vaccination or testing facility.
