The leading cause of hospitalization in diabetics is diabetic foot ulcers. These wounds take weeks to heal and non-healing wounds can lead to amputations and a higher mortality rate. 1.7 million diabetics get a foot ulcer every year and 17 million are at risk in North America. This costs the North American economy 11 billion dollars annually. With early detection and early action, these infections can be prevented.
InfraSense is creating a smart scale for diabetics. The InfraSense scale will have many of the features of current smart scales but also uses temperature monitoring to find infections before they become an open wound. This can be purchased without a prescription and does not require a subscription to use. The patient will step on our scale once a day to get their daily report on a Bluetooth connected app. Historical data will be stored so temperature trends can be identified to find infections at their early stages.
