About
Lifeblood is the national blood, milk, and microbiota donation and manufacturing service for Australia, operating under the Australian Red Cross. With a workforce of around 3,700, it processes over 1.5 million blood donations each year. Lifeblood is primarily funded by the Australian Government and state and territory governments, and its mission is encapsulated in the motto, "life is the reason." Formerly known as the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, Lifeblood rebranded in November 2019 to reflect its expanded role. It collects, processes, and supplies a comprehensive range of blood components, including red cells, platelets, and plasma, as well as donor human milk through its pasteurized milk program. Lifeblood serves hospitals and medical facilities across Australia, ensuring a safe and reliable blood supply system in partnership with the National Blood Authority.
