During patient intubation in cases of traumatic injury resulting in pneumothorax and tension pneumothorax, lung intubation can often compound the problem. While adequately ventilating the undamaged lung, the forced air will escape from the damaged lung into the thoracic space. When the lung tissue is damaged, forced air gets trapped, causing tension pneumothorax. We developed the Lung Isolation Tube (LIT) device to solve this problem.
