While working a shift on a colorectal postoperative unit, she assisted a patient in emptying a colostomy bag. After transferring the contents into a measuring container and rinsing it at the bedpan washer, she was unexpectedly sprayed in the face with contaminated backsplash. This experience highlighted the risks nurses face daily and inspired the creation of LOOEY—a simple, effective solution designed to make the process safer and more hygienic for healthcare workers and patients alike.
