Micro-Cosmos

Micro-Cosmos is a Dutch health technology company based in Nijmegen, founded in 2020. It emerged from a health hackathon at Radboud University Hospital, where a team developed a concept aimed at improving patient comfort and recovery during hospital stays. The company designs and manufactures the Micro-Cosmos, a retractable dome-shaped hood that creates a personal environment for patients by minimizing external stimuli like sound and light. This enhances privacy, security, and sleep quality. The Micro-Cosmos is produced in Arnhem using medical-grade materials, including a stainless steel frame and aluminum segments. Its primary purpose is to help patients relax and recover more quickly by improving their day-night rhythm and reducing stress and fear during hospitalization. The company is currently piloting the product in several hospitals, including Radboud University Medical Center and Charité hospital in Berlin, to assess its impact on patient recovery and sleep quality. Micro-Cosmos aims to establish its product as a standard option for patients across Europe by 2030 and is exploring partnerships to expand into the elderly care market.
