MISSION:
MIND Hawaii is a student-led organization and competition that brings together interdisciplinary teams comprised of University of Hawaii students, paired with faculty and medical industry mentors, to develop solutions to challenging medical problems. MIND Hawaii aims to foster a spirit of innovation and design at the University of Hawaii. We encourage the development of solutions that impact healthcare around the world but place particular emphasis on fostering solutions that impact the state of Hawai’i.
STRUCTURE:
MIND Hawaii partners with local physicians, engineers, and business leaders within the local community to provide support to multi-disciplinary student teams and their projects. Over the course of the year our program holds various workshops that teach you the basics of researching your problem, designing solutions, creating design specifications, prototype development, and business plan creation. Problems are student submitted or come from various sources in the local healthcare community.
MIND Hawaii not only provides an education through our workshops, we also provide mentorship throughout the year. MIND Hawaii facilitates connections between teams and the community. If teams need access to physicians offices, medical supplies, or more advanced medical knowledge, we will facilitate the necessary connections to the community to ensure participants are able to experience and understand the problem they are tackling.
The program culminates in a year-end sales pitch competition in which teams will present their solutions and market/personal impact. Teams will compete for $10,000 in total prize money divided into three prizes: Impact Prize, Geriatric Care, and Pediatric Care.
