Orthospeed is a dental bracket acceleration system that shortens the time needed to wear dental braces from and average of 30 months down to 18 months. Orthospeed also takes away irritation and pain for sensitive patients such as children. It is applied in a gel through a syringe to the contact points of the brackets and archwire. The effect is a lubrication that eliminates unwanted frictional forces in the tooth alignment process. Orthospeed was invented by Professor Juan Alio in Madrid, Spain. Orthospeed is based on ingredients found in nature such as those in the Olive tree or the Aloe Vera plant.
We like to use a metaphor to summarize the benefits of Orthospeed – imagine a train on a track. We can think of the train as the bracket configuration as the train and the track as the archwire. If the track is dry and the steel train wheel contacts the steel track directly, we will create a frictional force that will affect the trains speed. We will arrive at the station at a given time. If we lubricate the same track the following day before the same train passes by, the train will complete the same journey in a faster time. The end result of this lubrication is a shorter journey time.
