Company Description
QBC Diagnostics was formed in 2005 when the hematology line of products was purchased from Becton, Dickinson and Company. The core technology of QBC Diagnostics is Quantitative Buffy Coat (QBC) analysis: a unique and novel technique in which a small sample of whole blood is placed into a capillary tube and centrifuged at high speed until all of the blood’s components are separated according to their specific gravity. As the white blood cells and platelets separate from the red blood cells, they form a tiny, buff-colored layer between the red cells and the plasma called the “buffy coat”.
Products
The QBC hematology systems feature the world’s only true dry hematology systems, which include the STAR, Autoread Plus, and associated reagents. The QBC technology offers a 9-parameter complete blood count in a simple, robust format.
QBC Diagnostics also markets several products in the fluorescence microscopy field. The ParaLens, an epi-fluorescence microscope adapter, affords the cost-sensitive lab the ability to turn a standard compound light microscope into an epi-fluorescence microscope for use with the QBC Malaria test, Fluorescent stained Micobacteria slides, IFA assays, and other fluorescence-based diagnostic procedures. The Fluorescence and Staining Technologies (F.A.S.T.) line of products provides faster, more sensitive fluorescence staining and processing supplies to field clinicians struggling to keep up with caseloads. The ParaLens and F.A.S.T. products can be combined with a microscope, centrifuge, or multiple power options to create an easy to implement Fluorescence Microscopy solution to meet any lab’s needs.
