Mechanical ventilation can be lifesaving in the setting of acute respiratory failure. However, if the pressures and volumes chosen for each patient are inappropriate for the underlying lung pathology, mechanical ventilation can actually injure the lung: a condition called ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI). InspiWaveTM monitoring provides the two most important lung information to guide clinicians in setting their ventilators: the size of a patient’s effective lung; and its degree of heterogeneity. With this information, clinicians are no longer “blind” to the effects of ventilator settings and can personalize the settings according to the changing condition of a patient’s lung over the course of their treatment. InspiWaveTM will provide a new standard of ventilator care to reduce the risks associated with VILI.
