Vitamica is a spin out from the University of Bristol with a single focus: to apply a novel approach to the important challenge of antimicrobial susceptibility testing. We are developing a rapid diagnostic device using photonics technology that can show the effect of antibiotics on bacterial cells in a few minutes.
There is a developing global crisis in the rise of antimicrobial resistance among common infections. One of the recognised solutions to the challenge is to develop rapid methods of showing whether an antibiotic will be effective against an infection, and therefore help to guide the prescribing of antibiotics. Targeting the use of antibiotics will help preserve these essential medicines for future generations. Vitamica’s technology has the potential to revolutionise prescribing of antibiotics.
